The drama series, based on the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids -- where anyone could be a spy for Gilead -- all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Blessed be the fruit of Margaret Atwood's pen.
The 79-year-old Canadian author announced Wednesday that she is penning a sequel to her classic 1985 dystopian novel, 'The Handmaid's Tale.'
Called 'The Testaments,' the sequel will take place 15 years after the final sequence in 'Handmaid's,' and will be narrated by three female characters. The author announced the book on Twitter with a message for her fans: “Dear Readers: Everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we've been living in.”
The original novel follows Offred, a 'handmaid' living in a dystopian America known as Gilead. Handmaids are slaves who are forced to be breeders for upper class families after a fertility crisis strikes. It's the inspiration for Hulu's series of the same name, which stars Elisabeth Moss as Offred, and won the Emmy for outstanding drama series in 2017. Although the series continues the story past the original novel's ending, the new book will follow a different path.
The book is due to be published Sept. 10, 2019. Junga movie download.
